On September 17, 2018 R.I.S.E. members, along with the Simmesport Town Council and Mayor Draper held a ground-breaking ceremony on a beautiful strip of land in the heart of Simmesport. This parcel of land had been named after Mr. Leo Ehrhardt. Leo Ehrhardt served from 1940 to 1992 for all but one term. The Simmesport Town Council voted on May 31, 2017 to name the centrally located land Leo Ehrhardt Central Park.
With donations from the Pierite Group, the Simmesport VFW Post 7643, and the Greater Atchafalaya Area Chamber of Commerce, RISE designed a monument to commemorate Mr. Leo’s service to the Town. On May 15, 2019 RISE held a dedication ceremony. Many people came out to pay their respects to the a unique man in Simmesport’s history. The Ehrhardt Family was in attendance as well to round out a beautiful ceremony.
